     The Department of Humanities provides study in the fields of communication, fine arts, literature, religion, western civilization and philosophy.  The curriculum provides a broad-based approach which develops linkages between the humanities areas and the technological fields that have been the mission of the School of Mines.  Interdisciplinary Sciences degree candidates are required to complete twenty-four (24) semester hours of humanities and social sciences courses.  Other science and engineering degree candidates are required to complete sixteen (16) semester hours of humanities and social sciences courses - at least six (6) credits in each area.  Engineering majors are required to enroll in at least one upper level humanities or social science course (of at least three (3) credit hours).
